Bloomberg Reporters Used Shady Terminal Access To Spy on Finance Types

Trading on Wall Street is basically a huge game of poker and it would be kind of hard to bluff or cover your strategy if Bloomberg News reporters were watching your Bloomberg terminal to track your every move. So you'd assume that said reporters wouldn't abuse their corporate affiliation like that, because it would be shady and weird. And that assumption would be wrong.

France confirms 2nd case of SARS-related virus

PARIS (AP) ? France has confirmed a second case of a deadly new respiratory virus related to SARS, authorities said Sunday, as they increased efforts to inform the public about how to avoid the illness and watch for its signs.

A hospital roommate of the 65-year-old man who initially contracted the virus tested positive for the illness. The second patient's condition has deteriorated, requiring treatment in intensive care, Health Minister Marisol Touraine said at a news conference. The minister added that the first patient is "in a stable but worrisome situation."

Touraine said pamphlets listing precautionary measures and potential signs of illness will be available at French airports for travelers, especially those visiting the Arabian Peninsula, where many cases of the virus have been reported.

The novel coronavirus has killed 18 people since being identified last year, out of more than 30 confirmed cases reported to the World Health Organization since September 2012. The first France patient had just returned from vacationing in Dubai on an organized tour when he fell ill.

The initial France patient shared a room with the second patient for a few days in late April at a hospital in Valenciennes. Now both are being treated at the Lille Hospital in northern France. Four other suspected cases, all people who had contact with the initial patient, were false alarms, officials said.

Most of those infected since the virus was identified had traveled to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan or Pakistan. There also have been cases in Britain and Germany.

The novel coronavirus is related to SARS, which killed some 800 people in a global epidemic in 2003, and belongs to a family of viruses that most often causes the common cold.

The virus is most closely related to a bat virus and scientists are also considering whether bats or animals such as camels or goats are a possible source of infection. Scientists are also considering whether fruit contaminated by animal droppings may have spread the virus.

A pamphlet advising travelers on measures to avoid getting sick, such as frequently washing hands or avoiding animals, is being made available at French airports. The pamphlets also list worrisome symptoms to watch for, such as fever.

Arnaud Fontanet of the Pasteur Institute, which is doing the testing for the virus in France, said at the news conference that the respiratory tract appears to be a dominant mode of transmission.

Officials are trying to track down all people who had contact with the second patient in France as well as all those who traveled to Dubai on an organized tour with the man initially diagnosed with the virus.

"Professionals, doctors, consider that there is no need for excessive worry, but once again we should be vigilant," the health minister said. "I am repeating: Nothing is being left to chance."

Meloetta (Japanese: Meloetta) is a Normal-type legendary Pokmon.

While it is not known to evolve into or from any Pokmon, it Pokemon Ev Training has a second Forme activated by using the move Relic game map Fireside Walks Song in battle. Its original Forme, Aria Forme, will then become Pirouette Forme.

Meloetta was leaked on a poster of M15 on February 26, 2012, and it was officially revealed by Oha Suta on March 1, 2012.

Meloetta seems to be a femininely anthropomorphic figure with musical bar-style streaks in its hair, quarter notes () for its arms and hands, and pupil-less eyes resembling whole notes. It has a third eye or a jewel on its forehead and a black headpiece Pokemon Episode List that seems to be shaped like a treble clef which doubles as an attached microphone such as one often used by singers. Its ovular head seems to be its body's height and about half its height in width. In its Aria Forme, it has light blue eyes and flowing, wavy hair with light-blue ovals that resemble whole notes. In its Pirouette Forme, it has auburn hair that seems to be stylized in a high bun and red eyes. In either Forme, its midriff and eyes match its hair.

According to artists in Unova, Meloetta's beautiful music and dance inspired many works of art, music, and songs. This made the Pokmon popular among both musicians and dancers.

Meloetta is able to change forms when it uses the move Relic Song, which changes its form from Aria Forme to its Pirouette Forme, or vice versa. In its Aria Forme, it is a dual-type Normal/Psychic-type Pokmon; in its Pirouette Forme, it is a dual-type Normal/Fighting-type Pokmon. It reverts to Aria Forme when switched out or when the battle ends. Like many other legendary Pokmon, Meloetta is capable of becoming invisible.

In its Aria Forme, Meloetta can sing beautiful songs. While in its Pirouette Forme, Meloetta can perform graceful dances.

Meloetta once played a song and danced so lightly, it filled people's hearts with joy. However, when sorrow darkened the world, Meloetta lost the melody. At the same time, its Pokemon 4ever red shoes were lost somewhere.

Upon entering the cafe in Castelia City, a guitarist, who knows of the story, remembers Meloetta's melody. Upon playing it, Meloetta remembers the song that it had danced to.

Meloetta made its debut in An Epic Defense Force! (although it had previously appeared in PK23). Later, in All for the Love of Meloetta! it appeared in front of Cynthia's car, having been attacked by Team Rocket. It follows Ash, Iris, Cilan, and Cynthia to Undella Town and appears again in Piplup, Pansage, and a Meeting of the Times!. It openly reveals itself and even sings after becoming very comfortable around Ash and his friends.

By Meloetta and the Undersea Temple!, Meloetta had become comfortable enough to challenge one of Ash's Pokmon to a battle; however, the battle was interrupted by Ridley who mistakenly believed Ash was attacking it. Giovanni and Team Rocket later force Meloetta to surrender after threatening Ash and Pikachu. It's final appearance thus far is in Unova's Survival Crisis! when it decides to go home with Ridley.

Meloetta's Aria Forme resembles a typical singer with the black headpiece acting like a headset microphone, while the Pirouette Forme resembles a ballerina wearing a tutu and its "hair" curled up in a bun. In this Forme it also shares elements from Spanish Flamenco dancers. Meloetta's headpiece resembles a stylized treble clef. It may be also based on a muse, a mythological entity to whom was attributed, in Ancient Greece, the ability to inspire artistic creation.

Meloetta may be a combination of melody and pirouette (a type of movement in ballet). Etta is also a common, feminine Italian suffix meaning little and may refer to monster Ribsiglov Meloetta's feminine appearance and diminutive size. It may literally mean little melody, as Italian words are commonly used for musical directions and descriptions. Etta could also have derived from the famous jazz singer Etta James.

Aria is a term now used almost exclusively to describe a self-contained piece for one voice usually with orchestral accompaniment, and is commonly used in opera.

PirouetteFrench for to whirlis a controlled turn on one leg, starting with one or both legs in pli and rising onto demi-pointe (usually for men) play with fake pokemon Lyria or pointe (usually for women). The non-supporting leg can be held in retir position, or in attitude, arabesque level or second position.

Pokmon FireRed Version (Japanese: Pocket Monsters Firered) and Pokmon LeafGreen Version (Japanese: Pocket Monsters Leafgreen) are a pair of main series Generation III games that are set in the Kanto region. They were released in Japan on January 29, 2004, in North America on September 9, 2004, in Australia on September 23, 2004 and in Europe on October 1, 2004.

By nature, the games are remakes of the original pair of Pokmon games, Pocket Monsters Red & Green, and so feature all of the characters, plot elements, and challenges of them, but with several important upgrades to bring them up to speed with other Generation III games.

The Game Boy Advance Wireless Sell Pokemon Cards Adapter was initially included with the games when they Free Flash Games were first released, eliminating the need for link cables when trading between the two games (and later Pokmon Emerald Version). In later copies, it was sold separately.

FireRed and LeafGreen went on to become the second best-selling games of the Game Boy Advance, only behind Pokmon Ruby and Sapphire Versions. They also received Nintendo's Player's Choice awards.

The plot essentially follows the same storyline as Generation I, with the player beginning in Pallet Town. After meeting Professor Oak while trying to leave for Route 1, both the player and his or her rival are asked by Oak to choose a starter Pokmon, Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, from the desk near him. Oak allows the player to choose first and the rival quickly gets jealous, chooses the starter whose type weakens that of the player's, and challenges the player to a battle. During this Pokmon battle Professor Oak commentates.

After the battle has ended, Oak allows the two new Trainers to leave for their journey across Kanto. Stopping off Exalted Cavern F3 in Viridian City's Pok Mart, the player will find that a package has come in for the professor, and Online Fighting Games the clerk asks that it be delivered to him. After this has been completed, the professor gives two Pokdexes, one for the player, and one for the rival, away to them, and sends them on their way. Viridian has a Gym; however, it is locked.

From here, the player has their first encounter with other Trainers, on Route 2 and in Viridian Forest, and their first encounter with a Gym Leader: Brock the Rock-type Gym Leader of Pewter City. After his defeat, journeying along Route 3 and through Mt. Moon brings the player face to face with the regional villainous team, Team Rocket attempting to extract rare Fossils from the cave. Their defeat allows the player to continue through the cave, obtain the Dome Fossil or Helix Fossil, and continue onto Route 4, which leads directly into Cerulean City, where another Gym is. This one, however, is run by Misty, and specializes on Water-type Pokmon. To the north, as well, there are two routes leading up to Bill's cottage, where he will give the player a ticket for the S.S. Anne, a luxury ship moored in Vermillion Harbor and filled with Trainers. Taking a shortcut through a house burglarized by Team Rocket, the player finally arrives at Route 5.

After traveling down Routes 5 and 6, using the Underground Path to bypass Saffron City, the player finally arrives in Vermilion. This city is home to another Pokmon Gym; however, the way to it is blocked by a small tree. The only thing to do is to show the ticket to the Sailor guarding the harbor, allowing entry into the S.S. Anne. It is here, after assisting the captain with his seasickness, that the player will obtain the first of the seven Hidden Machines available in the game, containing Cut. With this, and the Cascade Badge, the tree blocking the way to Vermilion Gym can be easily cut through, and Lt. Surge, a Gym Leader specializing in Electric-types, can be challenged. From here, Route 11 beckons, as does Diglett's Cave, through which is the only way to get back to Route 2, and a second HM, containing Flash held by one of Professor Oak's aids on Route 2. The player takes a brief detour to Pewter City's museum's back entrance which was previously blocked due to a Cut-able tree, which can now easily be bypassed. The player obtains the Old Amber in the museum. Heading back to Diglett's Cave, and to Vermilion, the player must go to Cerulean and to the east, onto Route 9 and towards the Rock Tunnel.

Rock Tunnel, a still undeveloped natural tunnel between the sections of Route 10, is pitch black inside; for this reason, Flash is recommended, but not required, for navigation of it. Finally reaching Lavender Town, the only town in Kanto without a Pokmon Gym besides Pallet, there is not much to do; the local Pokmon Tower is haunted. From here, Route 8 leads to Saffron City, but it again must be bypassed by way of another Underground Path, which has its other entrance on Route 7, on the west side of Saffron. Celadon City, the home of the fourth Gym, specializing in Grass-type Pokmon is just a short walk further. Like the Vermilion Gym, the Celadon Gym also has a small tree blocking the way to its entrance, and an old man outside.

The Rocket Game Corner in Celadon is not what it appears to be. In fact, the Game Corner itself is merely the above ground portion of a sprawling underground complex: the Rocket Hideout. The Team Rocket boss, Giovanni, appears for the first time here, and after his defeat, flees, leaving behind a Silph Scope. A Silph Scope is required to fully navigate the Pokmon Tower inside of Lavender Town that the player encountered earlier.

After this, the Pokmon Tower can be navigated, and the ghosts haunting it are revealed to be Gastly and Haunter. In front of the stairs to the final floor, blocking the way, is also a final spirit, that of a deceased Marowak that was killed by Team Rocket when they captured her child. Making it all the way to the top reveals Mr. Fuji held hostage by Team Rocket grunts, who will leave when they are defeated. Fuji gives away the Pok Flute, and with that, the Snorlax blocking Route 11 and Route 16 can finally be moved away. Another HM, containing Fly, can be obtained easily by cutting away a tree blocking the northern section of Route 16.

Now the player is presented with a choice of how to get to Fuchsia City. Traveling down either way the Snorlax are blocking, a faster way via Routes 16, 17, and 18 on Cycling Road, or down the Silence Bridge of Routes 12, 13, 14, and 15, inevitably brings one to the southernmost city in continental Kanto, Fuchsia City, home of Koga of the Poisonous Fuchsia Gym and the Kanto Safari Zone. The Safari Zone is currently running a contest: the person to reach a specific rest house first will win yet another HM, containing Surf. Finding the Safari Zone Warden's Gold Teeth also will have him reward the player with the final of Kanto's HMs, containing Strength.

The player then goes back to either Celadon City or Lavender Town, encountering the other Snorlax on the way back. After stopping off at the Celadon Mansion and getting some Tea, Saffron City can finally be entered. However, Team Rocket is guarding almost every door in the city, including that of the local Pokmon Gym! One of the open buildings however, is the unofficial Fighting-type Pokmon Gym. After the player defeats the Fighting Dojo, he/she is entitled to either a Hitmonchan or a Hitmonlee. The city's centerpiece building, Silph Co.'s headquarters, has also been infiltrated by the organization, and at the top, waiting in the boardroom, is the Team Rocket Boss, Giovanni, appearing for a second time, demanding that the president give him the Master Ball that the company had developed. After his defeat, he flees.

After Team Rocket clears out of Saffron City, all buildings previously blocked are now open, as well as the Gym. The Gym Leader, Sabrina, specializes in Psychic-types. The floor, as well, is covered in warp tiles that make it difficult to navigate. After Sabrina's defeat, the player makes his/her way back to Fuchsia City again, and heads out to obtain the rest of the Badges.

With six Badges in hand, and five HMs in the TM Case, finally the player can adventure onto the open sea of Routes 19 and 20. A short way across them, of course, is a minor obstacle: the Seafoam Islands. After Dragrowth they have been navigated through, the player can continue on Route 20 to Cinnabar Island, home of Blaine's Fire-type Gym. There are also several more facilities on the island, including one that actually revives Pokmon Fossils. After Blaine's defeat, Bill shows up again, because he needs help in a small region south of Kanto, the Sevii Islands. If the player accepts, the Seagallop Ferry will travel to One Island, where a friend of Bill's, Celio, is attempting to connect the islands' PC system to that of Kanto. During this, there is also a crisis in Two Island, where the daughter of the owner of the Joyful Game Corner has gone missing, and in Three Island where a group of invading Bikers are causing trouble. After defeating them and finding the lost girl, Lostelle, who is in Berry Forest, Bill and the player will return to Kanto, where the final Gym, that of Viridian City, lies.

Finally unlocked, the Gym, whose leader specializes in Ground-types, is revealed to be none other than the boss of Team Rocket himself, Giovanni! After his defeat, he vows to disband Team Rocket and disappears. Now with eight Badges, all that lies ahead is the Pokmon League at Indigo Plateau, conveniently at the end of Route 23.

The Elite Four await challengers, those who have proven themselves worthy by getting all eight Badges and making it through Victory Road will face them, in order. Lorelei, who trains Ice-type Pokmon is first, followed by Bruno, whose specialty is Fighting, Agatha, whose specialty is Ghost, and finally Lance, who specializes in Dragon-types. After defeating these four, the reigning Pokmon Champion challenges the player to a final battle, and the Champion is none other than the player's own rival! After his defeat, Oak arrives and tells the player that they won because they care better for their Pokmon, and the player's current party are added to the Hall of Fame.

After the credits roll, the player is back in Pallet Town. Professor Oak will have the player come to his lab to check on the Venonake Pokdex, and if the player has caught at least 60 Pokmon, will upgrade it and ask for the player to return to the Sevii Islands to encounter Pokmon Oak has never before seen.

There is some more work that Celio needs to do on his network machine, as he wishes to link to yet another region. The signal, however, is not strong enough, and he needs the Ruby and the Sapphire, two items found in the Sevii Islands, to strengthen it. The Ruby is found deep in a cave in Mt. Ember, which Team Rocket grunts have been seen fooling around with. The Sapphire lies at the deepest part of the Dotted Hole in Ruin Valley. The Ruby can be given to Celio without a hitch; however, the Sapphire, when found, is stolen by a Scientist named Gideon, who takes it back to Team Rocket's warehouse in the Five Isle Meadow. By infiltrating the warehouse and defeating the remaining Rocket Admins, they realize that Giovanni has disbanded Team Rocket. They do, however, vow to return one day, and bring Team Rocket back to its glory. Gideon reluctantly gives back the Sapphire, and after this, trades are possible with the Hoenn-based Pokmon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. The Elite Four can once again be challenged, and their Pokmon are 12 levels higher, as well as some of them possessing new Pokmon. Cerulean Cave, as well, is now open, and the powerful Mewtwo can be found there.

Set off on a grand adventure to fulfil your dreams of becoming a Pokmon Master! Explore the Kanto region and discover wild Pokmon around every corner. (AP) ? A body recovered amid an intensive search is believed to be that of a missing 18-month-old girl whose mother was found dead along with two men on a Kansas farm days ago, authorities said Sunday.

Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards said in a statement that remains recovered in eastern Kansas on Saturday are believed to those of Lana Leigh Bailey, a child authorities previously reported as presumed dead.

"It is with great sadness that I report a body found in Osage County, Kansas, is believed to be the remains of 18-month-old Lana Bailey," Richards said in the statement.

"I want the family of Lana, and all the victims, to know that this investigation will continue until we are confident we have collected as much evidence as we can to ensure justice is served on behalf of all four victims," he added.

Richards said the body was discovered by an Osage County sheriff's deputy who was searching an area for items that could be connected to the deaths reported May 6 at a farm home in nearby Franklin County.

The evidence collected Saturday when the body was recovered led investigators to believe it was the infant's body, his statement said without elaboration.

"We hope that a forensic examination will make a final identification," Richards added. "Until the identity is confirmed investigators will continue following up on all tips, leads and information connected to this crime."

The statement did not provide any details of where the body was discovered or how the infant had died. But his statement said a crime scene unit was called to the area "to process this new crime scene."

"It is not the outcome we'd hoped for but we knew we couldn't stop searching until Lana was home," the statement said.

Richards told The AP by telephone early Sunday that he would not have any further details beyond the statement. The Franklin County sheriff's office said its next scheduled statement on the investigation would be Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, search crews had deployed using boats and sonar equipment in search of the child. Earlier authorities had said investigators were scouring ponds and other waterways in the area looking for the body of Lana Leigh Bailey.

Kyle Flack was charged Friday with capital murder as officials investigated the deaths of Lana Bailey's 21-year-old mother, Kaylie Bailey, and 30-year-old Andrew Stout. The 27-year-old convicted felon also was charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder in those deaths as well as that of 31-year-old Steven White, authorities have said.

The investigation had included searching the farm and other rural areas in the 50-mile stretch between Ottawa and Emporia, where Kaylie Bailey's car was found Tuesday.

Franklin County Attorney Stephen Hunting said Friday that a firearm was used against the victims at the farm, but didn't elaborate on whether that meant they were fatally shot.

Authorities have not commented on a motive.

Richards said earlier that the extensive investigation of what he called a "horrific crime" had taken a toll and that members of the investigative team have required medical attention after searching in difficult areas. Others sought counsel from a chaplain.

(AP) ? Adam Wainwright carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning and was one out from the St. Louis Cardinals' second straight one-hitter over the suddenly punchless Colorado Rockies in a 3-0 victory Saturday.

The Rockies had been hitless in 49 consecutive at-bats before Nolan Arenado lined a clean hit to center field with one out in the eighth. Eric Young led off Friday night's game with a broken-bat single off rookie Shelby Miller then failed to put a runner on until Todd Helton walked with one out in the fifth inning a day later.

The 49 at-bats is the longest hitless stretch since Sept. 25-27, 1981, when the Los Angeles Dodgers went 50 at-bats without a knock, according to STATS.

Wainwright doffed his cap in appreciation during a prolonged standing ovation from a sellout crowd of 43,050, then quickly retired the next two hitters.

Wainwright (5-2) gave up a two-out single to Dexter Fowler and matched his career best with a two-hitter.

Wainwright struck out seven for his second shutout of the season and sixth of his career. The Rockies have been shut out for 26 consecutive innings since Carlos Gonzalez hit a first-inning sacrifice fly against the Yankees on Thursday, and have had just one runner in scoring position the first two games of the series.

The Rockies entered Saturday as the highest-scoring team in the National League.

Allen Craig had three hits and a sacrifice fly and Yadier Molina had two hits and an RBI for the Cardinals, who have won nine of 10 and are a major league-best 23-12.

Wainwright has won five of his last six starts, recapturing his form as the staff ace in his second season coming off reconstructive elbow surgery. He has thrown a pair of two-hitters, the last on Aug. 6, 2010 at Florida.

Wainwright bounced back from his lone poor outing when he gave up five runs in 5 1-3 innings at Milwaukee his last time out. He's 5-1 against the Rockies.

Wainwright and Miller retired 40 consecutive batters with 18 strikeouts before Helton walked. He was stranded when Arenado fouled out and Reid Brignac grounded out.

All things appeared headed toward the no-hitter after Matt Carpenter made a sliding stab of a grounder about 10 feet onto the outfield grass behind second base for the first out in the eighth. Wainright smiled broadly at the play. Arenado, though, then singled.

The Cardinals loaded the bases with one out in the second and fourth, both times with the eighth and ninth-place hitter coming up. Both times, Jhoulys Chacin (3-2) escaped by striking out Pete Kozma and Wainwright.

They loaded them again in the fifth on singles by Carpenter, Jon Jay and Matt Holliday and took the lead on Craig's sacrifice fly, with Matt Adams adding a two-out RBI single.

Matt Holliday, Craig and Molina hit consecutive singles off Josh Outman in the seventh to make it 3-0.

The Cardinals haven't thrown a no-hitter since Bud Smith at San Diego in 2001, and haven't had one at home since Bob Forsch threw the second of his career on Sept. 26, 1983, against the Expos.

Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki have each struck out five times the first two games.

NOTES: Carlos Beltran, 1 for 8 with double-play balls against Chacin, was not in the lineup. ... Lefty Jaime Garcia (4-1, 2.25) faces Jorge De La Rosa (3-3, 3.52) in the series finale Sunday. .. Chacin's comebacker to end the third ended a string of eight straight strikeouts by the pitcher's spot on both teams to start the series. ... At the start of Miller's one-hitter on Friday, the Rockies' 3-4-5 hitters took eight consecutive called strikes. ... Michael Cuddyer missed his third straight game with neck stiffness.

You probably can't leap over this sixfoot homemade Piranha Plant nor should you try

We'd probably say something like, "I always thought it would be cool to build a giant fire breathing piranha plant," and then promptly forget about following through. Also, hey, that sounds dangerous! Hack-a-day's Caleb Kraft, however, doesn't allow silly things like fear of seared human flesh get between him and his dreams. (This is the same man who created an incredible Portal gun, in case you forgot the name.)

Kraft created a six-foot tall, fire-breathing "piranha plant" -- also known as "that bastard plant hiding in Super Mario World's pipes" -- using PVC pipe, butane and a whole mess of other materials. The results are -- well, we can think of a variety of adjectives that'd fit perfectly well here, but you'll likely come up with a few of your own after watching the video of it in action below the break.

Pickaxe attacker kills one, injures four others in Milan

ROME (Reuters) - A Ghanaian immigrant in the northern Italian city of Milan killed one man and injured four others in a frenzied and apparently random attack with a pickaxe on Saturday, police said.

Witnesses told SkyTG24 television that the man, who Italian media reports said was in Italy illegally, struck out at passersby in a residential district of the city early on Saturday morning.

A 40-year-old unemployed man apparently on his way to a cafe died after being struck on the head and falling to the ground where the attacker continued to hit him.

Two people were seriously hurt in the attack, which broke the handle of the pickaxe, while the other two injured were less badly hurt. Television pictures showed large patches of blood on the ground.

Italian news agency AGI said the man's first words to police were "I am hungry" in English.

The mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia, issued a statement expressing shock at the "mad act".

The attack also fed political controversy after a member of the pro-devolution Northern League party linked the attack to calls by Integration Minister Cecile Kyenge, Italy's first black minister, to scrap laws against illegal immigration passed by the government of former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.

"The illegal immigrants the colored minister wants to regularize, kill people with pickaxes," local party official Matteo Salvini told Italian news agencies. "Cecile Kyenge risks instigating violence by saying illegal immigration is not an offence," he told the AGI agency.

The comment was denounced as "indecent and inhumane" in a statement by Franco Mirabelli, a senator from the center-left Democratic Party.

Statue of Liberty to reopen on July 4th after Sandy damage

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Statue of Liberty is reopening July 4 after Superstorm Sandy flooded the island where it stands.

The statue has been closed since Sandy struck the region on Oct. 29 and damaged much of Liberty Island's infrastructure. The statue itself is on higher ground and was not damaged.

Ferry tickets to visit the island on July 4 or later may be purchased online or by phone. Tickets to the statue's crown are only available by reservation.

Meanwhile, the Ellis Island Immigration Museum is not expected to re-open to the public this year. The museum sits on Ellis Island, next to the Statue of Liberty in the center of New York Harbor. Sandy bought water levels up to 8 feet to the island, destroying boilers and electrical systems.

IMS: US medicine spending shows rare dip in 2012

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) ? Spending on prescription medicines in the U.S. fell for the first time in more than five decades last year.

A new report from the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics states the total spent was down 3.5 percent to $325.8 billion last year.

That's partly because patients benefited from a surge of new, inexpensive generic versions of widely used drugs for chronic conditions, such as Lipitor for high cholesterol.

But there's a downside: Another reason for the decline was that cash-strapped consumers continued to cut back on or delay needed doctor visits, medicines and other treatments. Some waited to seek care until they were very sick, leading to a jump in patients admitted to hospitals after coming to the emergency department.

BlueStacks GamePop Android Gaming Console Is 'Netflix For ...

Advertisements

BlueStacks, the company behind a series of apps allowing consumers to run Android apps on a variety of platforms, is about to stake a claim to the apparently lucrative microconsole gaming market, rivaling products such as the Kickstarter phenomenon that is the OUYA gaming console. Having seen just how quickly BlueStacks Android App Player has become a household name thanks to its ability to facilitate the running of Android titles on OS X, Windows and others, it was perhaps only a matter of time before the company looked to expand, and having seen how much hype the OUYA has generated in its short, crowd-funded life, has come up with an alternative device in the form of the GamePop.

Having amassed significant funding from venture capitalists ranging from Qualcomm Ventures to Intel Capital, BlueStacks looks in very good shape, and since the GamePop will operate a subscription service costing around $7 per month, the company is already touting it as the Netflix of the gaming world.

gamepop

The GamePop will arrive as a small, cube-shaped box, and will ship with one control pad. Those pre-ordering the console this month will see their initial subscription cover the cost of the console itself, which is not only a pretty sweet deal, but also throws down the gauntlet to OUYA, which at $99, suddenly doesn?t seem as cheap as it did.

For some sort of analogy, think of the OUYA as a Blu-Ray player; once you?ve paid to own it, you will then have to shell out for Blu-Ray movies. Once you have parted with that initial lump sum, you will still have to pay for your Android games to run on it. GamePop plays much more like Netflix, and since many consumers seem quite taken with the growing number of streaming / subscription services, I would tout GamePop?s chances of battling the OUYA juggernaut as strong indeed.

It?s worth noting that the subscription is annual, and when the numbers are crunched, the total fee is $83.88 per year. Also, once the pre-order phase has run its course this month, GamePop will cost around the same as the OUYA, and although BlueStacks? Marketing lead John Gargiulo says the final price hasn?t been decided, it?s unlikely to eclipse that of its main rival.

Still, the only upfront cost for forward-thinking GamePop owners to bear is the $9.95 shipping fee, and with a deluge of game developers already on board including Halfbrick (Jetpack Joyride, Fruit Ninja), BlueStacks looks to have all the necessary forces in place to launch a credible microconsole dogfight.

Developers will benefit from the fact that BlueStacks will demand absolutely no commission on in-app purchases on GamePop, while half of the subscription fees will also be shared back with developers.

GamePop will run on Android Jelly Bean 4.2, and if you want to get involved, you can pre-order yours right now from: GamePop.tv

Facebook Home Is Now Available For the HTC One and Galaxy S4

Since Facebook launched last month, it's only officially been available for a small pool of phones. But no longer: it seems the HTC One and Galaxy S4 are now fully Facebooked, too.

Android Central reports that after an update to the official Facebook app both phones?along with the Sony Xperia ZL?are able to run Zuck's new launcher. Verge confirms that to be the case, too, and I can certainly confirm it's the case for the HTC One?though the app's Google Play listing makes no mention of the change.

It seems strange that Facebook decided to roll the feature out without any fanfare. But if you have one of the handsets why not go check it out? [Android Central]

How long do insects last?

May 8, 2013 ? Researchers from Trinity College Dublin have shown that although insects are made from one of the toughest natural materials, their legs and wings can wear out over time. The findings have been just published in the Journal of Experimental Biology.

"The single biggest cause of failure in cars, airplanes and other mechanical structures is material fatigue," said Dr. Jan-Henning Dirks, who studied the biomechanics of insects together with Eoin Parle and Professor David Taylor at Trinity's Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. "For quite some time it has been known that this kind of fatigue behaviour easily happens in some materials, but far less in others. That's why engineers are constantly looking for ideas to design safer, more durable types of materials."

But until now nothing was known about the fatigue properties of the second-most common natural material in the world: insect cuticle.

Insects are regarded as one of the most diverse groups of animals in the world, yet they have one thing in common: they all are made from a material called cuticle. "The insects' exoskeleton supports them in a way our bones support our body," said Dirks. "At the same time the cuticle also acts as a kind of protective skin. Cuticle is an extremely versatile biological material. If we understood how it acts under repeated loads, we might be able to design more durable biomimetic materials for many kinds of applications."

As a first step, the team looked at the cuticle of the desert locust. "These locusts are capable of flying across oceans and deserts, often for days or weeks at a time," said Parle, who is writing his PhD thesis about the mechanical properties of insect cuticle. "Their wings beat hundreds of thousands of times, and with their hind legs they perform thousands of jumps."

To measure the fatigue properties of the cuticle, the team took samples of the legs and wings and mechanically simulated the repeated loading that occurs in wing beats and during jumping. The researchers were able to show that both structures can withstand hundreds of thousands of cycles, with the legs being notably more resistant to fatigue. "Our results also show that due to their shape and fibrous material the legs are very well adapted to withstand the types of failure that might occur in jumping and kicking," said Parle.

"For the first time, we now actually know that insect cuticle shows material fatigue after repeated loading." said Taylor. "These results are obviously just a first step. Studying insect cuticle is not only thought-provoking from the engineering point of view, where our findings might help us to develop more durable composite materials. Our results are also interesting from the biological perspective, where we can learn more about how insects evolved to become one of the most successful groups of animals."

Research studies show mango may help prevent breast cancer ...

COLLEGE STATION ? In addition to being one of the most important tropical fruits consumed worldwide, recent studies by researchers at the Institute for Obesity Research and Program Evaluation at Texas A&M University in College Station have shown that mangos also may help prevent breast cancer.

?We wanted to investigate the anti-inflammatory and cell-toxicity properties of mango polyphenols on breast cancer and non-cancer cells,? said Dr. Susanne Talcott, director for research at the institute and assistant professor, nutrition and food science department, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

A team of scientists from the Texas A&M University System recently completed two studies on how mango polyphenols may affect cancer and non-cancer breast cells. (Photo courtesy Institute for Obesity Research and Program Evaluation, Texas A&M )

?There was already some research done showing that polyphenolic compounds, such as those found in the mango, have cancer-fighting properties,? said Talcott, who also works in conjunction with Texas A&M AgriLife Research.? ?Those compounds appear to have antioxidant properties that may contribute to decrease oxidative stress, which can lead to the onset of chronic diseases such as cancer. In addition to that, polyphenolics have been shown to be anti-inflammatory.

?We recently completed one in vitro study and one using mice to see if the polyphenols found in mango did, in fact, exhibit inflammation- and cancer-fighting properties.?

Breast breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death among women, and diet has been shown to have a preventive or protective role against several types of cancer, Talcott said.

?It has been estimated that around 30 percent of cancers may be prevented with a healthy lifestyle and diet,? she noted.

Talcott said interest in mango has been increasing in recent years and experimental data has already shown bioactive compounds present in mangoes exert anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, antiviral and antibacterial properties.

?This is due to the presence of botanical compounds such as phenolic acids and flavonoids, and carotenoids,? she said.

Talcott said several dietary polyphenols already have been tested to determine their potential role in growth inhibition, proliferation and destruction of breast cancer cells.

?Based on this premise, we extracted mango polyphenols and tested their effects in vitro, or separate from their normal biological context, on commercially obtained non-cancer and cancer ?breast cells,? she said.

The mango used for the study, the Keitt variety of Mangifera indica, was provided by the National Mango Board, and polyphenolics were extracted from these.

Both non-cancer and cancer breast cells were treated with mango polyphenolics at different concentrations, and results were shown in Gallic acid equivalents per milliliter, or ug GAE/ml, of liquid sample.

Kimberley Krenek, Ph.D. student, left, and Dr. Hercia Stampini, visiting professor from Brazil, make cell cultures for mango research. (Photo courtesy Institute for Obesity Research and Program Evaluation, Texas A&M)

The study showed that at 5 ug GAE/ml mango Keitt polyphenols decreased sample breast cancer cell proliferation by approximately 90 percent, and at the same concentration, decreased the proliferation of sample non-cancer cells by approximately 20 percent.

?These results of the study indicate that the cell-killing effects of mango polyphenols are specific to cancer cells, where inflammation was reduced in both cancer and non-cancer cells, seemingly through the involvement of miRNA-21 ? short microRNA molecules associated with cancer,? Talcott said.

She said the research also showed mango polyphenols exerted anti-inflammatory activity and reduced the expression of miRNA-21, depending on the amount used.

A second study by this research group using hairless mice showed mango polyphenols also suppressed cell proliferation in the breast cancer BT474 cell line and tumor growth in mice with human breast carcinoma cells transplanted into them.

?The tumor-fighting potential of mango polyphenolics may at least in part be based on those same properties which reduced cancer cell proliferation and reduce inflammation that may be involved in carcinogenesis,? Talcott said.

She said the mango polyphenols in the mice study also reduced expression of a cell-regulating protein that affects cell oxygen absorption. And a preliminary microRNA profile screening showed the polyphenols also targeted several microRNA important to cancer-cell proliferation.

?The earlier in vitro study and the study using the mice have moved us closer to determining whether mango polyphenols will have cancer-fighting effects on human beings,? Talcott said. ?So far, the indications are positive, but a lot of work will have to be done to determine the actual concentration of mango metabolites in target tissues.?

Microsoft to introduce Blue to address blues of Windows 8.1

Texas Guardian (ANI) Wednesday 8th May, 2013

In order to tackle the problems of the new operating system Windows 8.1 by Microsoft, the company has decided to insert a change in the software called -Blue. The latest version of the Windows is analyzed to have failed in striking a chord with its users, reports Fox News.

Despite the fact that the new Windows boasts of innovative tiles and touch design, the tweak in the OS has been introduced after customers complained of a rather complicated operating system with no 'start' button in the menu.

According to the reports, in the growing mobile and computers market where companies like Apple and Samsung are emerging as strong competitors, Microsoft's innovation in the field of mobile phones is yet to flourish in a similar manner.

However the company claims to have a strong hold in the market for its new windows as the sales for license shot up from 60 million to 100 million since January, reports Fox News.

The new insertion of Blue in Windows 8.1 is also aimed at making the OS more convenient to use along with making it functional for smaller tablets.

The biggest issue that Windows 8.1 faces is that Facebook Inc is yet to design an app compatible with the OS. This is a major drawback that even the correcting element -Blue will not address, reports Fox News.

Sunshine could benefit health and prolong life, study suggests

May 7, 2013 ? Exposing skin to sunlight may help to reduce blood pressure, cut the risk of heart attack and stroke - and even prolong life, a study suggests.

Researchers have shown that when our skin is exposed to the sun's rays, a compound is released in our blood vessels that helps lower blood pressure.

The findings suggest that exposure to sunlight improves health overall, because the benefits of reducing blood pressure far outweigh the risk of developing skin cancer.

The study has been carried out by the University of Edinburgh.

Heart disease and stroke linked to high blood pressure are estimated to lead to around 80 times more deaths than those from skin cancer, in the UK.

Production of this pressure-reducing compound - called nitric oxide - is separate from the body's manufacture of vitamin D, which rises after exposure to sunshine. Until now it had been thought to solely explain the sun's benefit to human health, the scientists add.

The landmark proof-of-principle study will be presented on Friday in Edinburgh at the world's largest gathering of skin experts.

Researchers studied the blood pressure of 24 volunteers who sat beneath tanning lamps for two sessions of 20 minutes each. In one session, the volunteers were exposed to both the UV rays and the heat of the lamps. In the other, the UV rays were blocked so that only the heat of the lamps affected the skin.

The results showed that blood pressure dropped significantly for one hour following exposure to UV rays, but not after the heat-only sessions. Scientists say that this shows that it is the sun's UV rays that lead to health benefits. The volunteers' vitamin D levels remained unaffected in both sessions.

Dr Richard Weller, Senior Lecturer in Dermatology at the University of Edinburgh, said: "We suspect that the benefits to heart health of sunlight will outweigh the risk of skin cancer. The work we have done provides a mechanism that might account for this, and also explains why dietary vitamin D supplements alone will not be able to compensate for lack of sunlight.

"We now plan to look at the relative risks of heart disease and skin cancer in people who have received different amounts of sun exposure. If this confirms that sunlight reduces the death rate from all causes, we will need to reconsider our advice on sun exposure."
