Justin Bieber Pictured In Studio With Kanye West

Perhaps Kanye West doesn't have to sleep like the rest of us mere mortals. That might explain how the rapper is seemingly everywhere at once these days: squiring Kim Kardashian all over New York, shooting a mysterious mini-movie in Qatar
and popping into a recording studio to work on tracks with pal Justin Bieber.

While the 18-year-old pop star has been wrapping up work on his upcoming album, Believe,
due out June 19, he got a visit from West. Bieber's bodyguard Kenny Hamilton confirmed the superstar summit, tweeting out a photo of the pair working together on an unspecified song.

"Putting the finishing touches on the album and it's gonna be special," he wrote while posting an Instagram pic of West tapping away on a laptop in the studio with Bieber in the background. He followed with a post that appeared to be another enthusiastic response to the studio get-down, writing, "Also witnessed a current legend and one future legend make magic once again ... I love this thing we call music!"

Bieber's been giving his fans plenty of tantalizing sneak peeks over the past week. In addition to announcing the release date during an appearance on "The Voice," he also brought along a teaser for his as-yet-unreleased "Boyfriend" video. After that glimpse, he was spotted shooting new scenes
for the highly anticipated clip in which he was kissing a mystery brunette on set.

"The concept of this video, I mean, it's not like a steady concept," Bieber told MTV News
while shooting the video back in March. "It's not like 'Justin follows this girl to this spot.' No, it's a bunch of amazing scenes: like a fire scene, we have an ice scene.

"It's kind of like bouncing back and forth," he said. "And then there's scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It's fun." He also tweeted out the cover art
on Friday, a simple black-and-white close-up of his face with the word "BELIEVE" stamped in a yellow caution-tape font underneath. The album will reportedly feature a song reacting to the paternity suit
filed by a 20-year-old California woman who claimed she became pregnant with Bieber's baby after a brief bathroom hook-up at an October 2010 concert; the suit was dropped in November.

In addition to whatever Kanye and Bieber cooked up, the album will also feature a duet with Taylor Swift
, as well as magic made with Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine and Drake.

The Avengers Global Box Office Haul: Record-Breaking!

Take cover, Katniss Everdeen and the cast of Think Like a Man, The Avengers is coming for you.

While this Marvel blockbuster doesn't open until May 4 in the United States, it's international box office haul from this weekend portends a record-shattering few days ahead in America, as The Avengers raked in $178 million worldwide from Wednesday to Sunday.

For some perspective:

  • That's more than Battleship grossed in in its first two weeks abroad, and nearly what The Hunger Games has earned in over a month.
  • That figure alone would make The Avengers the third highest-grossing film of 2012 domestically.
  • It garnered the most from Great Britain, $24.7 million
  • It hasn't even opened yet in such huge markets as China, Japan or Russia.

Or the U.S., of course. Are you excited for The Avengers?

Switched On: Big kicks, not all for starters

Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a column about consumer technology.

Image

The end of last week's Switched On left doubt for the future of dedicated devices that tread on the turf of smartphones. After all, funding is key to every major new product initiative and, despite the vast fortunes of many Silicon Valley engineers that have been accumulated via IPOs and acquisitions, few wish to take on the risk of fronting a new consumer device themselves.(In 2007, the handheld FlipStart PC was hatched from FlipStart Labs, funded by Vulcan Ventures, the investment arm of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.)

Most venture capitalists abhor the device business; it is a rare device that makes it to the spotlight of startup debutante balls such as DEMO, TechCrunch Disrupt, or Launch. Even most of the 94 companies at CES' Eureka Park were not developing end-user devices Where, then, can a device entrepreneur go for funding and pick up some publicity in the process?

Apple and Samsung set to meet May 21st, hug it out over 48 hours

Apple and Samsung set to meet May 21st, hug it out over 48 hours

These two brawlers were given until July to come together and mediate over their numerous globe-spanning patent lawsuits, but it appears neither side needs to wait that long. According to Foss Patents, May 21st and 22nd have been circled on the calendar of a certain San Francisco courthouse, where Magistrate Judge Joseph C. Spero will attempt to arbitrate in a calm, soothing voice for two days straight. Presenting himself as a confidant who sits outside of the main litigation being conducted in San Jose, Spero has already asked both parties to open up and provide "candid" statements about the strengths and weaknesses of their own cases, as a first step towards identifying areas of compromise. Fortunately, he still has a few weeks in which to devise further cunning plans.
