The University of Maryland seeks applications for the position of Director of Education Abroad. Over 2,000 students participate annually in more than 100 study abroad programs and exchanges through the University of Maryland Education Abroad program, recently ranked #17 for overall participation and #9 for short-term program participation among doctoral institutions. The Director assumes primary responsibility for Education Abroad, reporting to the Associate Vice President for International Affairs, ensuring the unit meets goals set forth in the Strategic Plan and overseeing the administration of a growing portfolio of high-profile Education Abroad programs. The position will promote internationalization goals and enrollment targets by collaborating with academic units to integrate study abroad experiences into the curriculum, by improving organizational processes and their underlying technology, and by developing innovative programs with international institutions and organizations.
NOTES:
Additional Salary Information: Salary commensurate with experience.

Master's degree required, Ph.D. preferred, in the fields of international studies, international education, student services or a related field. A minimum of 5-8 years of increasingly responsible experience in Study Abroad administration, including at least three years of demonstrated management and supervisory experience. Demonstrated knowledge of study abroad program development and budgeting, assessment, and risk management issues. Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail and organization. Must be able to work well with faculty, administrators, advisors, staff and students. Knowledge of international travel requirements and cultural sensitivity critical. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks, manage crises and work effectively with diverse populations. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for approximately 3-5 weeks each year.

Experience using university information systems, study abroad application management software, educational and office desktop technology is preferred. Active membership or leadership role in national professional organizations is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively in at least one language other than English is preferred but not required. Experience living overseas a plus.

This position requires international travel. A valid passport is required.
